Cool writing Goo-Gaa of the Week

story_cubes

I’m always looking for something to jumpstart my creativity. So, I am going to offer what I find to each of you for your opinion.

Today’s offering is Story Cubes by Rory’s. When I went shopping, I saw 3 other sets with different themes. I chose this one because I like orange. Random, I know.

I used these today when I was writing for NaNoWriMo. I rolled the 9 dice and chose to write a story based on the 9 images that rolled out.

On a scale of 1-10, I would rate this a solid 7. I envision using it for brainstorming and workshopping, but not for serious story creation and maintenance.

NaNoWriMo: Day Six (word count: 8838)

crestnanowrimo

I am hauling bootie now! 8838 words today. I’m a little over 26,000 words so far. That’s fantastic! I learned that I just need a few things:

* to be awake early in the AM (apparently I am more creative now that I am later in the day)

* a cup of coffee

* Law and Order on the TV

* be sicker than a dog

* a busy spousal unit in the other room

* occupied puppies in the kitchen

* no job (!)

NaNoWriMo: Day Five (word count: 2502)

Day five for me. Day 16 for most everyone else. So, I’m averaging 1/3 of the writing days that everyone else is. Giggle.

The spousal unit helped me devise an Excel spreadsheet that told me what words I need to average every day in order to keep on track. At this point (if I write every day), then I need to average 2343 words per day. If I don’t write again until next weekend (oh boy), then I need to average 4080 words per day to stay on track. Quite handy this little Excel spreadsheet. It offers me reality in one simple little document.

If only I could count my blogging toward my daily word count. This little one is 118 words long.

NaNoWriMo: Day Four (word count: 4441)

I got up late – have a headache (a sinus thing, really) – and I wrote 4441 words. What the heck? How did that happen? Slowly. Very slowly – but I plodded along. During work. After my shower. In a break I found here and there.

But that still puts me 8469 words behind where I should be. Doggone it! But, I am 14869 words INTO it! That’s awesome.

I am determined to “win”! I will WIN! I just need a few hours here and there every day to do my daily count – and catch up. No problem.

Nope. No problem.

Surrrrrre.

NaNoWriMo: Day One (word count: 2267)

crestnanowrimo

Okay – so you’ve noticed that it is November 9 and I’m saying that today is Day One of my NaNoWriMo adventures. Yup, that is true. I am officially 8 days behind.

So, what does that mean for our heroine? 2381 words per day. That’s a lot of words every day!

Today’s update: 2267. And my fingers hurt. But I cranked it out in less than an hour. I am framing my story – figuring out who the characters are – and where I want them to go. It’s going to be a busy 21 days.

Wish me luck.
